Worshipful Company of Needlemakers - RCN Foundation Education Grant
On the 9th February The Master, John Mill and Company representatives met at RCN Headquarters in Cavendish Square to review the impact of the awards and to scope further joint working.
The Company has partnered with The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Foundation since its launch as an independent charity in 2010. The aim is to support UK Registered nurses and midwives’ professional development associated with the use of needles within their clinical practice.
Together we match-fund donations that enable approximately 10 individuals annually to benefit from an educational grant. Through application, the successful applicants need to demonstrate their use of needles within clinical practice, and demonstrate how the proposed learning will enhance their practice and patient care.
Since 2016, in total 78 nurses and midwives have benefited from an educational grant.
In 2022 successful applications included:
· Biology of Infectious Diseases
· Contemporary Cancer therapies and Care
· Diploma in Sexual Health
· Fundamentals in Cancer Care
· A two-day course for pleural disease management
· Minor injuries and illness course
· Research design and methodology
We also funded modules of longer courses:
· Independent and supplementary prescribing module
· MSc Pain Management
· Prescribing for Health Practitioners
We note from Award winners’ feedback that their skills have developed, knowledge and confidence built in their clinical practice. Their achievement has also impacted positively on their working life and career progression.
Partnership between The Worshipful Company of Needlemakers and RCN Foundation continues to support nurses and midwives, thereby aiding the NHS and improving care for patients.
