THE 2022 LORD MAYOR’S PLATINUM JUBILEE BIG CURRY LUNCH

GUILDHALL THURSDAY 7TH APRIL 2022

Having missed this in my year and every year since then John and I were delighted to attend with the Master and Junior Warden.

Appropriate since it raises funds for Armed Forces charities that it was run with military precision, serving 1500 guests in three sittings. Excellent curry with, of course, Cobra beer. There were also Champagne bars and cocktail bars – no one needed to be thirsty or hungry! Accompanied by The Royal Marines Band playing a selection of music with a royal theme.

An opportunity to see stalls from some of the companies – the Bakers had an excellent bag of goodies to buy. I also caught up with former Sheriff and Past Master Framework Knitter, Liz Green, at their stall to learn that her initiative asking people to knit squares for blankets early in the lockdown resulted in over 1,000 blankets being distributed. I was happy to contribute and am still knitting.

Appropriately in this Jubilee year the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie attended and spent time talking with veterans and their families that the fund has supported.

Of course there were many opportunities to support the cause with raffles, silent auction etc. I was lucky enough to win a Master Class in baking at the Southbank University National Bakery School, which was excellent (John thinks so too!)

The Lord Mayor was delighted to announce that his target of £270,000 had been exceeded and the sum of £310,000 raised was the highest ever.
