Arkwright Awards 2022

A real privilege!

I attend the award ceremony for the Arkwright Engineering Scholarships.  Held at the Institution of Engineering and Technology in Savoy Place, the afternoon is given over to the presentation of certificates to this enormously talented group of young people. Happily, parents and sponsors are encouraged to attend. Even better, sponsors are sat with the recipients of our scholarships, and I therefore could  meet and chat with David, Henry, Ava and Catherine. 38% of the scholarships have been awarded to young women and it is truly enthralling to hear a little of their various aims and ambitions. Some are already running businesses of their own from their bedrooms; others participating with great success in national competitions.  This is probably one of the most effective ways we can expend our charitable funding.   The only other livery companies sponsoring on this occasion are the Mercers, and the Engineers.
